Josie and the Pussycats is an American animated television series, based upon the Archie Comics comic book series of the same name created by Dan DeCarlo. Produced for Saturday morning television by Hanna-Barbera Productions, sixteen episodes of Josie and the Pussycats aired on CBS during the television season, and were rerun during the season. In , the show was re-conceptualized as Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space, sixteen episodes of which aired on CBS during the season and were rerun the following season. This brought its national Saturday morning TV run on three networks to six years. Josie and the Pussycats featured an all-girl pop music band that toured the world with their entourage, getting mixed up in strange adventures, spy capers, and mysteries.

Alexandra Cabot is the comic relief villain in the "Josie and the Pussycats" comic books, cartoon series, and movie. The comic book ran in publication from The Saturday morning cartoon was produced in Jealous of Josie McCoy because she is the leader of the band when Alexandra thinks she should be the lead [despite her having no talent] and, because the male lead, Alan, is attracted to Josie, Alexandra, with her sidekick, Sebastian the cat, try to foil Josie, but their plans always backfire! Alexandra has black hair with a white lightning-bolt shaped stripe running through the middle of it, giving her ponytail a slight impression of a skunk's tail. In contrast to the good-natured girls in the Pussycats, Alexandra is cynical, hateful, mean, offensive, rude, envious, scheming and self-centered.

They are noted for their signature cat ears and being strong women of color. Due to Josie and Cheryl being good friends, Cheryl occasionally sings with her and the band. Valerie and Melody disbanded the group after learning Josie was secretly pursuing a solo career, which later resulted in Veronica reuniting the group without Josie. Five years later, Josie reassembles the band under the same name with Cricket and Trula Twyst while signed with Cabot Entertainment. Josie and the Pussycats were formed prior to the start of the series.
